Does the male or female rat gather food for the baby rats?

we have just seen a rat in the garden and we threw it some bread and its taking it to the garden shed. we assume it has babies there, is it a boy rat or a girl rat??

Does the male or female rat gather food for the baby rats?
Rats are very selfish really and the rat is just taking the food to store it so it can eat it itself in a safe place. Rat pups (babies) will suckle from mum until they are mobile enough to find food for themselves.

Whether the rat is male or female is down to shape. Male rats are quite easy to spot because of their 'male bits' behind them! But also, females are quicker, more agile and look far slimmer than a male.

Word of warning, if you provide a regular source of food you will find the rats will take up residence in your home, which isn't a good thing!
Reply:Boy rats are pretty obvious, even from a distance.

Though, any rat will take food, and carry it back to the den to eat. They don't like eating out in the open or when they feel unsafe.
